Sinclair BioResources is a large miniature swine production facility with locations in Auxvasse, Missouri and Windham, Maine; its sister company Sinclair Research Center is a privatized biomedical research facility, also located in Central Missouri. Originally formed in 1965 by the University of Missouri as the Sinclair Comparative Medical Research Farm (SCMRF), its primary function was to provide laboratory animal research support for the University’s Environmental Health Surveillance Center (EHSC) and the Environmental Trace Substance Research Center (ETSRC). These three entities collaborated to monitor for epidemiological evidences of environmental related illnesses (EHSC), analyzing samples to detect trace amounts of substances that could be related to illnesses (ETSRC) and using laboratory animal models to test the hypotheses (SCMRF). This environmental toxicology services concept was remarkably farsighted for its time and it remains valid to this day.
Through the years, SCMRF’s role expanded and it became a resource for a wide variety of animal and human health-related research; it also became deeply involved in the development and use of animal models. Dedicated professionals of the private sector quickly realized the unique resource of the organization and privatized Sinclair Research Center on March 1st 1994 as a successful contract research organization and animal production facility. In order to accommodate growth and to improve the quality of the production and research facilities, 200 acres of land near Columbia were purchased and a state-of-the-art research and animal production complex with more than twice the capacity of the original University of Missouri site was built. The Maine Yucatan and Micro-Yucatan herds and production facility were acquired from Charles River Laboratories in 2002, and the Missouri facility was completed in the fall of 2004. AAALAC accreditation has been maintained since the year after privatization.
The private corporation Sinclair BioResources, LLC continues its mission to serve the animal and human pharmaceutical, human medical device, and consumer product industries in its production of purpose-bred animals. Sinclair BioResources has also contributed to the development of several animal models and several new herds of miniature swine. Through constant upgrading of personnel, facilities, and equipment Sinclair BioResources has become an efficient, competitive research center.
Sinclair BioResources is committed to efficiency, confidentiality, and rapid accurate service. Our desire is to work closely with our clients and develop long-term mutually beneficial relationships.
